For all the ancient people, the discovery and dominion first of the agriculture and then of the ceramics, were the first steps, which allowed them in their evolution to convert themselves into groups with a cultural idendity.

As they developed themselves culturally there was the necessity to communicate with more than just words and to leave a testimony of the acts enlarging them as people with their own culture.

The Olmecs were the first, who developed ideograms presented as glyphs. To them we have to attribute as well the invention of the system of the bars and points for the understanding of the calendaric time.

With the Mayan culture, there were many forms developed to express the writing and the art of documentation. For this they used the cutting in stone giving place to big steles, altars, lintels and other architectonical elements.

They created as well great stucco walls of paintings and books with pages of animal skin and tree barks. Unfortunately the examples of these latter art manifestations couldn’t resist the time and there are only a few walls and books, which arrived to our epoque.

Another form of creat art and writing were the earthenware objects and so the polychromatic ceramics, fired at low temperatures, perpetuated the history and are one of the works of the highest development status of the human kind.

In the HOUSE of the JADE in MEXICO, we are working to capture the sense of the grandeur of the pottery work of the ancient Mesoamerican people. Therefore we were analyzing types of soil, mud and natural mineral pigments; firing forms, the times for drying and firing, materials for the shine and thousands of details more to get similar ceramics to those ones made by the ancient people.

The investigation work is focused in our base in San Cristobal de Las Casas Chiapas Mexico, but the development of the studies is also made in our facilities in Antigua Guatemala and in Chalchuapa, El Salvador.

In our ceramics workshop we have examples of ceramics of various people and we count with a great collection of replicas of the most renowned ceramic objects, which are now located in museums and private collections.

The knowledge of the techniques and of that, what these art works try to tell us, allows us to value the history of the ancient people and we learn to appreciate the manifestacions of the past to conserve in future our cultural inheritance.

The House of the Jade,  certifies that every piece we sell, was produced in our own workshops, in a process of high control, by qualified craftsmen, who work with a high human value, a sound knowledge of their work and a great respect towards the environment.
