On this vessel
we can observe the fine lines reached by the ceramics artists in the
classical Mayan epoque. The painting lines are the main element in the
expression of the ceramics of type codex. In this composition, the artists
implies three dimensions through the use of the superposition of the images
of the painted figures. In this implication the white backgroung changes
from a plain field of two dimensions to a 3-D field.
On stage we
see the god Kawil, who is characterized by the mirror and the smouldering
axe, set on the front. The god’s body transforms itselv from its feet to a
stylized body of a snake, which extrems finish off with the head of a
supernatural beeing with a long nose. Out of the jaws of this creature is
emerging the figure of the god N, who stretches out his arms towards a woman
of an enormous covered bust, who occupies the central position and rests or
is captured by the body of the snake.
There are
three sequences of glyphic inscriptions. The main text above the snake,
starts with the date 13 Muluc 17 Pax, continuing in the other three with the
descrition of an mythological event, in which a birth is provided evidence
for. The text ends with the nominals phrase in two glyphs “the sacered
personage”. In the other glyphic inscritions there is a reference to rites
of the vision of the snake.
