Tones of Jade

 

Within the varieties of Jade, jade is the hardest, the densest and the scarcest, chemically it is a silicate of aliminium and sodium, containing other elements such as copper, chlorine, chrome etc which give it its characteristic tones.

 

The colour of the stones of Jade vary from a very white green, to a very dark green. The House of Jade has classified even the date a range of 18 tones, found in all the Mesoamerican region – from Guerrero and Chiapas until the valley of Motagua-

18 Jade Imperial or Esmeraldino:

“The emerald of the Mayas” is one of the most sought after varieties in the world because a jade stone, for as big as it is it will only have a small vein of the Imperial type. It is of a very light , almost apple coloured green, without markings. The aztecs knew it as quetzalchalchihuitl and it was considered doubly precious.

 

17 Azulado or Olmeca
 Was the most appreciated by the Olmecas, known in old times as Xoxouhqui chalchihuitle, a strange blueish green colour, almost transparent. Now it is the most mysterious and scarce, as there is little evidence of where it is found.

 


16 Corazón

 A strange colour of blue with milk. Even more scarce.
 


15 Jade Princesa

The characteristic which makes it special is its translucidity, its tone goes from a very light leaf green to a very dark one, but always with a high level of lucidity.

 


14 Naranjo 

From a soft colour between coffee and orange

Also known as Roselilly for its soft purple colour
