THE JADE is a mystic, precious stone, which for the ancient tribes of Mesoamerica was a symbol of immortality, eternity, power and love; the most precious things in life.

In San Cristóbal de Las Casas, the doors are open  to an area dedicated to praise the beauty and the history through the carved art in this devine stone, known as Jade.

In the rooms of our museum you can admires objects and jewels related to eight of the culturs in the Mesoamerican area; Mokayas, Olmecs, Teotihuacans, Mixtecs, Zapotecs, Mayas, Toltecs and Aztecs.

The master pieces of our museum is the replica of the mausoleum of Kinich Janab Pakal, the eighth Mayan governor of the ancient Mayan city, which today is known as Palenque. There you can observe the representation of the personage’s body at the moment of his funeral in the year 683, bearing all his jade jewels and garments of the epoque. In his colourful tomb he is awaited by the Bolontiku, the nine lords of the night, where he will become a god.

For the ancient people of Mesoamerica, no other material, neither gold nor silver,
were as precious as the jade.
