Archeological Reproductions
The House
of Jade is proud of the work of archeological documentation on behalf of our
director Herbert A. Castellanos, who along with the researchers Ayax Moreno
and Mark Zanzin, have put together the main body of information surrounding
all the archeological pieces of Jade related with the eight main historical
cultures of Mesoamerica (Mocayas, Olmecas, Teotihuacanos, Zapotecas,
Mixtecas, Mayas, Aztecs and Toltecs). Part of this work is exhibited in the
halls of the Mesoamerican museum of Jade in San Cristobal de las Casas,
where as a highlight one appreciates the replica that recreates the
sepulchre of the eleventh governor of Palenque, Kinich Janaab Pakal, who
died in the year 683 of our era.
The pieces
that we make are presented as versions of art and of crafts.
The first
are faithful copies of the originals that are found in museums around the
world and in large special collections, which are given with a certificate
of the original, informative documents of the piece and copy of the
registration in front of the Archeological Authority of Mexico, Guatemala,
Honduras or Belize., according to where the original piece is from. –
The
handcrafted versions are works of different levels and with less detail of
some of the more outstanding pieces of prehispanic art like the masks of
Palenque, Tikal and Calakmul.
We also
work on plates with details of stela and other Maya motifs.
